She defined neurosis as the psychic disturbance brought by fears and defenses against these fears, and by attempts to find compromise solutions for conflicting tendencies. She also believed that in order to understand these neuroses, it was essential to look at the culture in which a person lived. Where Freud had suggested that many neuroses had a biological base, Horney believed that cultural attitudes played a role in determining these neurotic feelings. While Horney followed much of Sigmund Freuds theory, she disagreed with his views on female psychology. She rejected his concept of penis envy, declaring it to be both inaccurate and demeaning to women. Horney instead proposed the concept of womb envy in which men experience feelings of inferiority because they cannot give birth to children. In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys from England are evacuated out of their country due to a war. The plane is then shot down and results into a plane crash on a deserted island. The boys are left all alone with no adults, no supplies, and no one to come and rescue them. Washington Square Essay I’m depressed. Well, how could I not be? I just finished reading Washington Square. I’m happy it’s over, but I’m not happy I finished it. No, that doesn’t make sense does it? Lets just say, I had a feeling how it was going to end up; I just hoped that I would be wrong. Unfortunately the one time I didn’t want to be right I was. Isn’t that the way it always works? I guess so. Catherine, dear plain old, Catherine. Poor girl, father thinks she’s plain, she thinks she’s plain, her aunt thinks she’s plain, even the man who she thinks loves her thinks she’s plain. Although James erases this thought in the beginning of the book I still believe it, â€Å"plain† equals â€Å"ugly†. I feel so bad for her but I guess you had to have what happened to her happen, or else we wouldn’t have such a depressing story. I tell you though, I’m glad my daddy isn’t rich or I would swear off guys a s well. I felt so horrible when I knew before her what Morris was like. He was realistic about the entire idea of this strikingly handsome man falling head over heals in love with his daughter who isn’t the greatest looking chick in the world. Something doesn’t quite fit. But it’s a known fact that children never believe what their parents say. Who trusts the person who’s had more experience in life? Where would the sense be in that? Although he had a funny way of showing it, Catherine’s father truly cared for her. Well we’ve already established that she’s not going to listen to his better judgment, but still, it didn’t help that she had an aunt who believed in Cinderella and Prince Charming fairy tales. Her aunt is a quack. James doesn’t go so far as to say this much but that’s what she is. She believes that everyone will find love. All she’s trying to do is live vicariously through her niece. Her father says, â€Å"All he wants is your money† she says, â€Å"no he wants your heart† and all that other mushy stuff. Her father really is a smart man. He knew from the start that his sister was going to cause this kind of trouble. He was right. It’s hard enough that she’s in love with a scumbag, but she’s got one saying he’s rotten and the other saying he’s perfect. Instead of ending up alone at the end she should’ve ended in an asylum. Hell, I know that would drive me crazy. Hmm lets see . . .who’s got the problem. Catherine maybe? Yes I think I’ll go with Catherine. Catherine is torn between the cultural forces that would have her marry into â€Å"elite† society, when she’s in love with someone she can never have-in this case a handsome young man who wants her only for her money. Of course she doesn’t know this yet but she will. The poor girl. Her father forbids her to marry Morris. Having a father disapprove of the man you love is a hard thing. Still loving the man your father disapproves of is even harder. Then later finding out that the man you’d been fighting for wouldn’t have done the same for you is devastating. Catherine knows she’s right, that Morris loves her. She knows this all the way up until the point where she finds out he doesn’t. (Well, that would be logical wouldn’t it?) But to solve the problem of being forbidden to marry, she merely stays unwed until her father’s death. When Morris shows up ten years later and then decides to try to wed her for her money, she’s got a new problem. She’s realized who he really is. So she rejects him and condemns herself to live alone rather than co mpromise to the crooked social order of both men and women that has limited her whole life. Now it’s just a hunch, but I honestly think she dies a virgin and without knowing the feeling of being loved. Now can you see why this book is just depressing? When the little boy told the rest of the boys about the snake-thing he saw in the woods he refers to it as the beastie. None of the boys really believe him, but in all their minds it gets them thinking and worring about whats on the island, and if there are any beasts of some sort. The beast occurs any time the boys are frightened. If they hear a noise in the woods it must have be the beast. If they see something that scares them it must be the beast. This freightenment works the boys up so much that their primary goal is to kill the beast. In the end they kill themselves, and they realize that they were running from themselves. The beast never existed I think the author, Golding, felt the same why when he wrote the book. The beast is the boys, and it ends up being their worst nightmare, and they dont even know it. I sought the advice of the program leader and the E-learning team again but did not get any responses and so I had to proceed with the two modules. In the period April to June, I frequently contacted the program leader and the E-learning team to allow me takes the third module without much breakthrough. The E-learning team later informed me that the program leader would not allow me take the third module since the Semester was just four weeks away from the assessment date and so he advised me to wait for a few more weeks when I would obtain my new study pathway. We have not a single steward's mate and their compartment was up there and we have very few officers that were in their rooms at the time of the explosion. Why do teenage want a romantic relationship at a young age? Is it because your peers are starting to have relationships and therefore you feel pressured to have one as well, in order to fit in or it is because you are really ready for a relationship.As a teenager, any romantic relationship you get into will most likely be a casual one because you are probably not at the right age where you are thinking of marriage and ideally the whole point of dating or having a boyfriend or a girlfriend is to see whether they are the kind of person you might end up marrying. The teenager is a uniquely human phenomenon. Adolescents are known to be moody, insecure, argumentative, angst-ridden, impulsive, impressionable, reckless and rebellious.Teenagers are also characterized by odd sleeping patterns, awkward growth spurts, bullying, acne and snobbish behavior. So what could be the possible benefit of the teenage phase? Most other animals – apes and human ancestors included – skip that stage altogether, developing rapidly from infancy to full adulthood. Humans, in contrast, have a very puzzling four-year gap between sexual maturity and prime reproductive age. Anthropologists disagree on when the teenage phase first evolved, but pinpointing that date could help define its purpose.There are a variety of current explanations for the existence of teenagers. Some believe that we need longer for our large brains to develop. Other explanations suggest that a teenage phase allows kid s to learn about complex social behavior and other difficult skills, or that it is even required to develop coordinated bipedal bodies adapted to travelling long distances. Scientists once thought that the brain's internal structure was fixed at the end of childhood, and teenage behavior was blamed on raging hormones and a lack of experience.Then researchers discovered that the brain undergoes significant changes during adolescence. Though many brain areas mature during childhood, others mature later – such as the frontal and parietal lobes, responsible for planning and self-control. So as a Filipino youth citizen our concern is to give attention to the behavior of teenager for getting involved of that kind of relationship. Scope and Limitation:The study limits only to the teenage relationship, what comes to the teenager’s mind when we talk about romantic relationship, and also is this already legal for teenager to have a relationship even though they do not know what are those certain circumstances that they will be face for entering this relationship. Relationship: an  intimate relationship  is an  interpersonal relationship  that involves  physical  or  emotional intimacy.Physical intimacy is characterized by  romantic  or  passionate  sex  and  attachment, or sexual activity. The term is also sometimes used euphemistically for a  sexual relationship. Peers: people who are equal in such respects as age, education or social class etc. B. Main Body: During the teenage years, the youth does not have a firm understanding of the role of dating. To teenagers, dating only consists of someone they feel attached to; spend time with, and/or a personified experiments. The teens may have curiosity in the emotions and tasks involved in a â€Å"relationship†.The lack of understanding of what a true relationship consists of is why the teenagers these days are so distorted. Instead of asking questions, they wanted to have an experience regarding those things. III- Lack of parental supervision A. Teens are not properly monitored by their parents. 1. Teenagers don’t have guidance with their pa rents. 2.They usually ask advice from their friends and not to their parents. 3. In teenager’s mind they thought that they already handle their lives without the prevision of the parents. B. Lack of self confident and self-steam when they are with their parents. 1.
